European standard EN 124 specifies the appropriate class of manhole top or gully top to be used, depending upon the place of installation.
Scope
EN 124 applies to gully tops and manhole tops with a clear opening of up to 1000mm,for installation within areas subject to pedestrian and/or vehicular traffic.
The purpose of the standard is to establish definitions, classes, materials, design & testing requirements, marking and quality control of gully tops and manhole tops.
Lettering
Provision is made for covers to be badged to identify services. (e.g. 'SW' or 'Foul', 'Telecommunications').
Customers' own specific lettering can be incorporated into the surface design upon request. A maximum of 4 letters/digits may be included with the tread pattern, although this can increase depending on the size and model required.
